Glycolic Acid is the most common used form of alpha hydroxy acid, derived from sugar cane. The benefit of glycolic acid is to moisturise and help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and aged spots. It also improves sun damaged skin. Recent studies show that glycolic acid has an additive inhibitory effect on melanin synthesis through tyrosinase activity in melanoma cells, effective for treating hyperpigmentation.
